Croatia also introduced the euro as a means of payment on January 1, 2023. No more calculating, no more worrying about where to buy kuna.
The fixed exchange rate is €1 for HRK 7,5345. If you have some Croatian kuna left at home, you will be able to exchange them into euros at all banks and post offices in Croatia for a whole year without additional fees, and from January 1, 2024, the exchange will only be possible at the Croatian National Bank.
According to the new regulations, the biggest change for tourists will be when withdrawing cash with a bank card at Croatian ATMs, where the commissions were quite high. With the introduction of the euro in Croatia, this cost will be lower. The cost of withdrawing cash with a credit card will still remain fairly high at ATMs, e.g. min. 15 € or 5 – 6% of the amount.
