It was confirmed that Croatia entered the Schengen area from January 1, 2023, which means the end of internal border controls with the EU.
This means that from January 1, 2023, there will be no more controls at the border crossings between Slovenia and Croatia and at the border with Hungary and Italy - sea crossings.
The abolition of controls from January 1 applies to all road and sea border crossings, for example at Croatian airports. At Zagreb, Pula, Rieka airport… on March 26, 2023 the abolition of border controls for flights within the EU will come into force. The delay in appointments is due to technical issues as airports without border control have to change exits.
The elimination of border controls means faster travel, no more long queues and therefore less stress. However, valid identity documents or passports are still required, as it can happen that passengers are subject to controls within Croatia.
