Every summer, the town of Krk comes alive with the spirit of the sea, sails and its rich maritime heritage. This year, one of the highlights of the summer programme will once again be the 29th edition of “Krk Sails”, taking place from 13 to 23 August 2026. Since 1998, the event has been dedicated to preserving the tradition of traditional boats and bringing the island’s rich maritime history closer to visitors.
The main event will take place on Saturday, 15 August, at noon, when the 29th traditional boat regatta “Krk Sails” will set off from the town harbour. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire traditional wooden boats sailing through the waters of Krk, representing an important part of the island’s maritime heritage and identity. The regatta is much more than a sporting competition – it is a celebration of the knowledge, skills and traditions passed down through generations of people connected to the sea.
This year’s event is particularly special as it marks 150 years since the founding of the Plav Sailing Club, which has played an important role in the development of sailing and maritime traditions in the town of Krk. The programme therefore includes exhibitions, workshops, lectures, demonstrations of traditional rowing and sailing, as well as various cultural and musical events.
Another special highlight is the Night Dance of the Boats, when traditional vessels create a magical atmosphere in the harbour under the evening sky.
Krk Sails is a wonderful opportunity to discover another side of the island during your holiday – its rich cultural and maritime heritage. If you are visiting Krk in August, be sure to include a visit to the town of Krk in your plans and experience a tradition that continues to sail proudly across the Adriatic Sea.
