Krk Sails 2025: A Celebration of Maritime Heritage

From August 13 to 15, 2025, the historic town of Krk on the island of the same name will once again come alive with the spirit of the sea. The beloved event "Krk Sails" (Krčka jedra), now in its 28th edition, is a vibrant celebration of traditional sailing and Adriatic maritime heritage.

Organized for the first time back in 1998 by the passionate members of the Plav Sailing Club – the oldest sailing society in the Adriatic, founded in 1876 – this event has grown into a must-see summer festival that merges tradition, culture, and entertainment.

Tradition Meets Culture, Music, and the Sea

The festivities begin on August 13 with the opening of the exhibition "On the Maritime Heritage of the Town and Island of Krk" along the scenic St. Bernardin promenade, near the historic Krušija wall. Through captivating photography and archival material, the exhibition brings to life Krk’s rich maritime past.

Throughout the day, visitors can join interactive workshops and demonstrations of maritime skills, including educational sailing sessions and scenic rides on traditional boats. The evening ends with a promenade concert by the Krk Town Music Ensemble, founded in 1832 – one of Croatia’s oldest musical groups.

Spectacular Highlights: Night Dance of the Boats & Ana Rucner Live

On August 14, the port of Krk will host an exhibition of traditional boats, showcasing the beauty and variety of wooden vessels that once ruled the Adriatic.

In the evening, prepare for a magical experience: the "Night Dance of the Boats", a choreographed water performance enhanced by lights and accompanied live by world-renowned Croatian cellist Ana Rucner. Known for blending classical music with modern rhythms, Ana’s emotionally charged performance will add a powerful artistic layer to the event.

Sailing Regatta & Klapa Music Finale

The final day, August 15, brings the central sporting event: the 28th Krk Sails Regatta. At noon, traditional boats with skilled sailors from across Croatia will take to the waters in a dynamic race full of tradition, strategy, and beauty.

The event concludes with an open-air concert by Klapa More at 9:00 PM on the Krk waterfront. Founded in 1995 in Split, Klapa More is known for their heartfelt performances of traditional Dalmatian songs and modern arrangements that captivate audiences across generations.

If you're visiting Krk this summer, don’t miss this unique celebration of sea, heritage, and culture.
